Another day of open dialogue with filmmakers. The film industry is full of creative minds and the industry demands we stay ahead of the market trends. Film is a collaborative process, so I tend to work with people I get along with, envisioning them in my future projects. I can see if people are truly interested or just feigning it to get a piece of the action. I am blessed to be working with the team I have around me.
The monster in the room is often ego, it has five arms: control, pride, judgement, anger and hatred. We all have given in to our ego at times of insecurity, and it is embarrassing to recollect. We all make mistakes, but selfishness has no place in film; the one place where we all need to shine. We want exceptional performances from everyone involved. Kindness is key, openness is vital, and encouragement can make the difference between a film working or not. Films can go terribly wrong if there are tensions on set. Of course, the monster in the room has to go home.
When we create, we manifest our thoughts into something tangible that takes on a life of its own. Film is the most powerful form of mass communication, so being true to oneself is essential to send the message that you want to tell the world.
